Our purple purses are still making their way around our community, and we are excited by the support the campaign has continued to receive. Thank you to everyone for helping pass the purse, and continuing to raise awareness surrounding and helping to end domestic violence.
In the midst of our Purple Purse campaign, we also wanted to let you know about another way in which you can help the women and children at the YWCA Emergency Shelter. This Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 community service club Altrusa International of Fargo will host the 13th annual Baby Shower to benefit the mothers and children residing at the YWCA Emergency Shelter.
Donations of new or gently used items for babies, young children, and new moms will be accepted during the event, which will take place Friday, October 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Fargo Kmart, located at 2301 South University Drive in Fargo. Suggested wish list items include: thermometers, sippy cups, baby shampoo, baby lotion, infant formula, diapers, strollers, and high chairs. More information is available at www.ywcacassclay.org, and a complete needs list is available here.
In 2012, for the first time in our history the YWCA served significantly more children than women. The 734 children who called the YWCA home in 2012 were in need of simple household materials like shampoo and diapers. The supplies raised at this weekend’s Altrusa Baby Shower will be used by the children and women who are currently calling the YWCA home.
A big thank you goes out to the community for your ongoing support, Altrusa International of Fargo and Kmart for hosting this event. We hope to see you all at Kmart this weekend!
