As part of Domestic Violence Awareness month in October, The Allstate Foundation launched the Purple Purse campaign to raise awareness surrounding domestic violence while simultaneously raising money for local YWCA associations and the YWCA USA. Thanks to the enthusiasm and support of the Fargo-Moorhead community, the YWCA Cass Clay passed our ten purple purses more than 6,800 times and raised a grand total of over $34,000 to help end domestic violence. Though each local association had a maximum cap of raising $10,000, any additional money raised through purse passing will be donated to the YWCA USA, up to $350,000.
Throughout Fargo-Moorhead, businesses, college campuses, local celebrities and community members participated in the campaign, passing ten purple purses and checking them in online to raise money for the YWCA Cass Clay.
“As one of the smallest YWCAs involved in the campaign, we are excited to share we were in the top three for most purse passes and more than doubled our number of purse passes from 2012,” says Executive Director Erin Prochnow. “We extend a huge thank you to everyone for passing the purple purses, raising awareness about domestic violence, and working to stop the cycle of abuse in our community. We wouldn’t have been able to meet our goal without the amazing help of all involved, and are humbled by the support we receive from the Fargo-Moorhead community.”
The YWCA Cass Clay was one of 30 local YWCA associations chosen by the Allstate Foundation to participate in the Purple Purse campaign. Other associations chosen for the campaign were: Central Alabama, Central Massachusetts, Central Virginia, Charleston, Chicago, Cincinnati, El Paso, Evanston/North Shore, Greater Los Angeles, Greenwich, Kauai County, Knoxville, Nashville, New York, Northeast Indiana, Northwest Georgia, Oklahoma City, Palm Beach County, Pueblo, St. Joseph, Salt Lake City, San Diego County, Seattle | King | Snohomish, Sonoma County, Spokane, Topeka, Tucson, Union County and York.
